Progress

Whoever said progress was a slow process wasn’t talking about me.

Have you ever seen a movie where you see a scene and you wonder what on God’s earth is that scene doing in this movie? It is totally irrelevant. The first line of this conversation has absolutely nothing to do with this conversation. It is a very random quote from one of my favorite rappers.

This conversation is about a person I know called Progress. The only person I know who goes by that name. I never used to pay attention to names but I usually roll my eyes at the sheer intellectual laziness of some parents who call their kids Monday or Friday just because they were born on that day of the week. But what do I know? Back to names, people usually live up to the expectation of their names. From recorded history in the bible to a recent book by some guy I like, there is a pattern of people living up to their names.

So back to this babe called Progress (wait, you thought I’d be tripping over a guy’s name …lol), I just edited what i typed after that statement, let’s all just stay politically correct.

I met this babe just before the lockdown during COVID, we got talking and i remember the first time we were supposed to “hook up” this babe is so innocent, she didn’t know hook up meant something else other than meeting in person in a world some of my friends walk in (I can’t come and be casting myself), anyway i didn’t show up. And I came back after like 4 days and acted like nothing was wrong. Omo, the babe change am for me. She would later tell me she was so pissed at me, she almost blocked me. But by this time, I was steadily giving her soft copies of all the best books she wanted to read, so I had some use value and she didn’t end up blocking me.

To cut a short story long, talking stage moved to dating stage to other stages (whatever that means) and eventually I cornered this babe as my wife. Not being the easiest walk in the park, but the babe is solid. Good head on her shoulders, brains and beauty personified, lady in the street, freak in the sheets. Loves God 100% and overall amazing human being.

But here’s where it gets interesting. When I met this babe, I was transitioning between businesses. COVID eventually made me take a decision to shut down a business I had been running for a while, even though it made me good money, i couldn’t push it to the scale level I wanted it plus i really wanted to get back into tech which had been my life before this business.

When you watch a really good movie (I like those cerebral mind fuck ones like Fracture and Shutter Island) and shout out to my Gs who give me good movie recommendations, a random scene that seems totally irrelevant eventually becomes an explanation for something that happens much later in the movie. So you see that line I quoted at the beginning of the conversation about progress not being a slow process, that has been my life since I met this babe. No caps. Progress and more progress. You meet some people and your life gets majorly screwed up and you meet some other people and you are almost asking God, where did you keep this person all these while and that’s how I feel about this babe. Like if i met her 10 years ago, maybe I’d be a billionaire in all currencies now. Does this mean I’d be a billionaire 10 years from now? I honestly won’t be surprised. Cause the babe just comes with a different energy. Things I used to struggle with, I find easier. I spend money today that were prayer points at some point in my life. My financial forecasts are starting to look like phone numbers. (Pun intended)

I am not sure where i stand on this whole some people’s spirits work better with yours than others, that’s above my pay grade but i can observe and interpret data and it is also possible I am bias with the data I am observing, there are probably more scientific and rational explanations but let’s give people their flowers (something else she taught me). I met this babe and life went from hustle to soft.

It is her birthday today and I thought to remind her of the force of nature that she is.

Happy birthday Progress Lanre Abimbola, life with you is beautiful.

I love you.
